If you are engaged in international business, you may be familiar with the AD Code and curious to learn more about it.
You might be confused by its name, but it's just for making international transactions easier.
Have you ever wondered about what is AD Code? Let me give you a quick brief.
AD codes refer to 14-digit numbers given by banks (on bank letterhead) where the exporter has a business account.
After obtaining the Import Export Code (IEC) from the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), you can proceed to apply for it.
The code is mandatory for both importing and exporting products internationally.
Here we will understand the process of applying for and registering an Authorized Dealer Code (AD Code) for international trade.
Applying for AD Code:
To begin the registration process, you must first obtain an AD code. To do so, you must reach out to a bank that is authorized to provide AD codes.
It is a 14-digit numerical code assigned to an exporter by the bank in which they maintain a current account for their business.
Firstly, get the AD Code application form from the bank. Fill it out accurately and completely with all necessary details about your business, transactions, and purpose for obtaining the AD Code.
Submit the application form and supporting documents to the bank. The bank officials will verify the information and documents.
The bank will examine your application, documents, and any clarifications you provided. If everything checks out, the bank will approve your application for AD Code registration.
After your application is approved, the bank will issue a unique AD Code in writing, usually on the bank's official letterhead.
It will take 3-4 working days for the application to be processed, and you'll receive your AD code on bank letterhead according to the DGFT's requirements.
After receiving the code, register it with the Custom House Agents (CHA) of the port from where your consignment will be shipped.
You must register your AD code with the CHA of every port from which you want to clear customs and export items.
